Through discussion with a visually impaired person/co-author of this study and observation of his interactions with an orientation and mobility specialist from the perspective of ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, this paper demonstrates that the cognitive and social motivations for touching by the visually impaired are a possible basis for co-constructing knowledge of the surrounding environment with others.
