To improve the satisfaction of the tourists, we have been developing tour guide application in Nikko since 2014. There are many tourists visiting Nikko, among them many travelers from Taiwan and Mainland China. For this reason, the need to explain the tourism resources of Nikko in Chinese is increasing more and more. However, there are several problems in the signs and menus.In this paper, we discuss the problems of Chinese notation in the tourist spot and explain that the correctness of translation for signs is important. Then we propose the points to consider for translation procedure using machine translation to increase the understandability of signs based on Functional Translation Theory.
